PM Andrew Holness toured Ocho Rios, aims to improve area
Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica aims to redevelop the town of Ocho Rios in St Ann with a vision to accommodate its rapid growth.

St Ann, Jamaica: Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica aims to redevelop the town of Ocho Rios in St Ann with a vision to accommodate its rapid growth. He recently made a visit to the several sections of the Ocho Rios market on Friday in order to bring significant developments and improve the overall market expansion.
Several other delegates also joined PM Andrew Holness in his tour to Ocho Rios Market. The other delegates joined by him includes, Senator Matthew Samuda, Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation; Councillor Michael Belnavis, Mayor of St Ann’s Bay; Councillor Dallas Dickenson, Deputy Mayor of St Ann’s Bay and Delano Seiveright, Senior Strategist and Advisor in the Ministry of Tourism.
PM Holness noted that they are looking to invest billions of dollars in this project because the entire town of Ocho Rios is being looked at for redevelopment. He further asserted that the current infrastructure cannot carry all the activities therefore they are making some serious investments in order to bring large number of facilities to the area, ensuring comfortable visit and stay of all the local citizens and travellers.
During his tour, PM Holness addressed various vendors and other stakeholders of the Ocho Rios market and ensured them that their plans to upgrade the market and transportation centre will be shortly put into effect.
While sharing about their plans to upgrade the market, he stated that they have been making efforts for the last five years. He remarked that they have been refining a plan and the residents will soon witness the upgrade of market and transportation centre which will open several amenities for food, clothes, craft and every other type of market.
He further asserted that his main motive to visit the market is to see the actual physical conditions on the ground so that he can reconcile what they have on paper and what actually it looks like. He also aimed to enhance the sanitary facilities in the market to improve some of the street areas to create pedestrian zones. These zones will benefit the overall development of residents and will play a huge role in reducing pollution, which will directly protect the health sector.
Along with that, PM Holness also made a tour to the new classroom block built at Exchange All age school and to the Ocho Rios Pier to determine the damages of the area. Also, he visited Pimeto Walk Road to overlook the ongoing road walk in the area following that, he visited Little Dunn’s River.
These visits of Andrew Holness have been appreciated by several citizens of the community and have praised him for his commitment and dedication towards developing the area which will provide overall benefits to the residents of the region.
