Antigua and Barbuda: The old airport of Barbuda is all set to transform into becoming a vibrant business hub which will feature a variety of shops, restaurants and other commercial activities.
This decision has been taken following the final approval of the new airport on the southern side of Barbuda. As per the details, the new airport will be allowed to receive and dispatch flights therefore, the old runway and terminal in Codrington will no longer be required.
The Architect, Chad Alexander will prepare a formal plan in order to submit it to the Cabinet in due course so that they could start up with their construction work of turning old airport site to a business hub.
The measures undertaken by the authorities for the redevelopment of the old airport into a business hub will play a huge role in stimulating the local economy of the country. It will also offer several new employment opportunities leading to create business growth and generate huge amount of revenues.
Also, some weeks back, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne unveiled about the inauguration of the new international airport. Now, as per the reports the Barbuda Airport will soon receive the final approval for international flight operations.
Notably, the government of the Antigua and Barbuda is also for the final approval from Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority to start their operations at the new facility and accommodate larger aircraft, private jets and many more to the island nation.
Moreover, the air terminal and the other systems required have been installed at the airport with a motive to enhance smooth operations and provide comfortable experience to all the passengers and the airline crew. The movement of Immigration and Customs officials to their permanent places in Barbuda is also being arranged.
All these details were given on a press briefing of a post-Cabinet, in which the Cabinet spokesperson, Melford Nicholas explained that a meeting was held with Barbuda Senator Knacyntar Nedd, Town and Country Planner Chad Alexander, and Deputy Head of the Development Control Authority (DCA), Senator Clement Antonio.
