Speaking of the CWI arrangements, the Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe spoke about excluding key players such as Andre Russell and Jason Holder from the forthcoming series because they would want to recharge their energy after a tiring schedule.
Both have looked like grueling cricket schedules. Holder has competed in five successive Test games against England and South Africa. Both of them will spend their break time with CWI’s science and medicine team.
The Head Coach, Daren Sammy, was hopeful for the series and opined that it could be a perfect chance for the Windies to take a break and work on their strategies. Looking at previous confrontations with South Africa, Sammy noted, “When it comes to a confrontation with a side like the South Africans, it is always good to rebuild the strategies and probably reset with the game plan.”
The coach added, “We have recently faced them and won some of the matches and lost sometimes, so this should be an interesting and crucial series. I am sure with the squad we have selected it is a good side and with the next T20 World Cup in 2026, I am sure, the guys will be eager to prove their desire to win.”
The team management unit for the series includes:
- Head Coach: Daren Sammy
- Assistant Coaches: Rayon Griffith, Floyd Reifer, and Ramesh Subasinghe
- Strength & Conditioning Coach: Ronald Rogers
- Team Manager: Rawls Lewis
- Team Analyst: Avenesh Seetaram
- Team Masseuse: Fitzbert Alleyne
- Physiotherapist: Denis Byam
- Team Media & Content Officer: John Phillips
For the West Indies Men’s T20 team, they have been in a good run recently, winning four of the last five series they played. They barely missed a place in the semi-final in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held in the Caribbean. In the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, West Indies occupies the fourth position, and South Africa on the fifth.
Match Schedule:
- 1st T20I: August 23, Brian Lara Cricket Academy
- 2nd T20I: August 25, Brian Lara Cricket Academy
- 3rd T20I: August 27, Brian Lara Cricket Academy
All the games will be at 3:00 pm local time, and these matches will be in a series of double headers with the matches of Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).
This series will be the first of its kind where fans will be able to see the West Indies Men’s International team in action, back-to-back with the Women’s franchise competition, giving fans more bang for their bucks spent.
Caribbean fans will also be able to watch the matches live on RUSH SPORTS or through the FLOW Sports and SportsMax mobile applications.
