The cultural programme for January-June 2022 has been announced by the Valletta Cultural Agency. The programme will include new productions and collaborations and will witness shows of many artists who would showcase the essence of Valletta’s artistic, cultural and social fabric.
According to the official statement, “The spotlight of the programme will be collaborations with the splendid Italian chorus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatru Malta, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cappella Sancta Catherine Choir, the Public Broadcasting Services, the Malta Film Commission.”
The programme will also feature several individual artists, government entities and the business community.
The statement further notified that the Grand Harbour would be celebrated as VCA Programme. During the first half of 2022, the programme will have a collaboration of VCA and Teatru Malta, DRAGO, inspired by the life of the professional pool and snooker player Tony Drago.
In April, the programme will bring the production of Mozart’s Requiem, a masterpiece performance by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, a 40-strong choir.
The programme was officially launched by José Herrera, the Minister of National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, on February 4, 2022. During the launch, minister said that the country would witness various cultural activities, including a mixture of visual arts, performing arts and much more. The minister further stated that the programme will help in strengthening the culture and will play an important role and will be loved by the Maltese and Gozitan people.
However, Chairman of Valletta Cultural Agency Jason Micallef mentioned that it is crucial that arts take centre stage amid the world has been dealing with various old and new challenges. Whereas, VCA CEO Catherine Tabone mentioned that “We are glad that we are once again hosting cultural events while healing the collective trauma.”
