US lawmakers introduce bill to give refugee status to Uyghurs

World: Two US senators Marco Rubio and Chris Coons have introduced the Bipartisan Legislation. After this bill is passed, Uyghurs who face Chinese government repression will be given refugee status in the US on a priority basis. 

Both lawmakers who have introduced the bill have said that the Uyghurs Human Rights Protection Act will make it easier for Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities to apply for resettlement in the US.

Moreover, Secretary of State- Antony Blinken staunchly reprimanded China on Sunday for actions of genocide against Muslim Uyghurs in its Xinjiang territory.

Who are Uyghurs?

The Uyghurs are known as native to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwest China. They are supposed to be one of China’s 55 formally recognized ethnic minorities. The Chinese administration acknowledges the Uyghurs as a regional minority in a multicultural nation.

The lawmakers have requested US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to take additional steps to help Uyghurs and the other Muslim minorities in China’s Xinjiang province. A similar kind of bill has also been introduced in the House of Representatives by MPs Ted Duchess and Mario Diaz.

Last month, Foreign Minister Blinken raised a case of genocide against Uygar in China’s Xinjiang province, saying that the US would continue to raise its voice. 

Blinken said that our stand on China’s human rights violations is clear, and we see the genocide as a violation of human rights. Blinken said that the world needed to speak together on this issue.

Whatever is being done by the Chinese government to suppress Uyghurs Muslims needs to be condemned in one voice. The whole world would have to be united on this. It is noteworthy that about one million Uyghurs Muslims are in torture camps in China’s Xinjiang province. They are being tortured in various ways. Women are also sexually abused.

According to the information, by writing a letter to the US, Uygar communities around the world have requested help in protest against the atrocities committed by China on the Uygar Muslims living in Xinjiang province. The Uyghurs community wrote a letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging Xinjiang’s torture camps’ closure.
