Tobago: $185,000 bail for man charged with rape

                                                    Trinidad and Tobago: A 59-year-old man was granted combined bail for $185,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Erica Baptiste at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 7, 2022, charged with rape, breach, and burglary of a protection order.
Bail was set at $175,000 for the charges of rape and burglary, while bail for breach of a protection order was set at $10,000.
According to a police report, on April 1, 2022, a man broke into a woman’s home & allegedly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
WPC Leacock of the Gender-Based Violence Unit investigated the report, which resulted in the arrest of a man charged with rape and burglary on April 6, 2022.
The third charge stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 4, where a 59-year-old man breached a protection order when he allegedly began using threatening and obscene language against a complainant.
WPC Kerr of the Gender-Based Violence Unit conducted an investigation, and the man was charged on April 6 2022.
He is expected to reappear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on May 5, 2022 (Thursday).
Investigations were supervised by W/Supt Ag Claire Guy- Alleyne, ASP Ag Bridglal and Insp Ag Miller of the Gender-Based Violence Unit.
Earlier, on April 8, 2022, Couva Man Charged with 20 Offences Denied Bail
A Couva man charged with 20 offences was among three suspects who appeared in court earlier this week following arrests made during anti-crime exercises in the Central Division.
Anthon Thomas, 42, of Railway Road, Couva, was arrested on April 1, 2022, and charged on April 5, 2022, by officers of the Couva Criminal Investigations Department (CID) with seven counts of housebreaking and larceny, one count of shop breaking and larceny, two counts of school breaking and larceny, two counts of office breaking and larceny, two counts of pavilion breaking and larceny, two counts of warehouse breaking and larceny, two counts of sacrilege, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition.
The charges originated from incidents that occurred from the period August 11, 2021 to February 25, 2022. Thomas appeared before Magistrate Christine Charles at the Couva Magistrates’ Court on April 6, 2022 (Wednesday). He was remanded into custody until May 2, 2022, as his bail was denied.
