Barbados: Persons aged 70 and over received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on the previous day in Barbados.

According to the information given from the office of Barbados, “Persons aged 70 and over received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on yesterday at satellite vaccination centers which were established at Checker Hall, St. Lucy; The Globe Drive-in; and St. Christopher’s Primary School. 

Additionally, Seven of the island’s polyclinics were also open to administer the vaccine to persons in that age group.”

On the other hand, With over 14,000 individuals received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine since the start of the National Vaccination Programme, executives are confident Barbados is on target to have a vital percentage of its population guarded against severe illness caused by the coronavirus.

A resident of Barbados said, “The medical team has been working tirelessly to vaccinate Barbadians. It can’t be an easy task. Kudos to you guys, and I pray that God will cover and protect you and your family as you selflessly give of your best.”

Thirty-eight persons tested positive for coronavirus on Friday, February 19. These new cases were recognized from among 717 tests held by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

Fifty-six people redeemed from the coronavirus, bringing the number of active COVID-19 cases to 770.

There was one death; a 60-year-old Barbadian guy with comorbidities, who passed away while at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility. The stats of deaths from the virus is now 31.

The 38 new cases included 15 female and 23 men. Six of those individuals had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility in process evaluation to determine whether their positive PCR test outcome showed that they were newly virus-positive or whether they had COVID in the past were no longer contagious.

Thirty of the new coronavirus cases were Barbadians, and two were non-nationals. As of Friday, there were no COVID-19 active cases at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds.

Barbados has reported 2,715 confirmed coronavirus cases – 1,243 females and 1,472 males – and 1,914 persons have redeemed.

The public health laboratory has so far performed 120,055 tests. There were 2,917 persons injected from vaccines on Friday as part of the National Vaccination Programme for coronavirus. To date, a total of 14,411 vaccinations have been administered – 6,390 men and 8,021 females. (BGIS)
