St Lucia observes 7 new COVID-19 cases and 134 recoveries

St Lucia: On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, the Ministry of Health & Wellness got confirmation of 7 new cases of coronavirus from the Ezra Long Laboratory. 

These outcomes are from a batch of 27 specimens taken from February 19 to February 23, 2021. These specimens were processed on February 23, 2021.

These seven people were seen at various community respiratory clinics, where they were evaluated and tested for coronavirus. In-keeping with the national coronavirus testing protocol, healthcare practitioners placed each of these individuals in-home isolation while awaiting the return of their test outcomes. 

Adjustments have been made to put them into quarantine. The contact tracing for these new cases is underway. The new inmates bring the total number of COVID-19 cases diagnosed in the country to date to 3149.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed the recovery of 134 people, bringing the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the nation to 231. Presently, one of the active COVID-19 cases is requiring critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

Today the Ministry of Health also records two coronavirus related deaths bringing the total number of deaths in the country to date to 34. Death #33 is an 83-year-old male from the Gros-Islet district with an underlying medical illness who passed away while in care. Death #34 is a 76-year-old male with an underlying medical disease.

He was one of the critical patients in care at the Respiratory Hospital. The Ministry of Health extends sympathies to the families and loved ones of both of these individuals.

The Ministry of Health encourages everyone to continue practicing the infection prevention and control measures to minimize the spread of COVID-19:

– Wash your hands and face during the day using soap based and flowing water

– Wear a mask in crowded places and ensure it covers the mouth, chin, and nose

– Maintain a physical distance from people

– Use a bleach solution to sanitize regularly touched surfaces and often handled objects

– Avoid contact with other individual who have flu-like symptoms

– If you are experiencing flu-like or cold like symptoms, keep away from others and seek medical care
