St Lucia: The Caribbean country’s government received a cheque worth $18.5 million from the Republic of China Taiwan (ROCT).
The cheque was presented by the Ambassador of China Taiwan to St Lucia Peter Chen to the Accountant General to be deposited in the Consolidated Fund for the implementation of small infrastructure projects in constituencies.
“Today, the Government of Saint Lucia was presented with a cheque of $18.5 million from the Republic of China Taiwan (ROCT) by its Ambassador, H.E. Peter Chen. The cheque was handed over to the Accountant General to be deposited in the Consolidated Fund for the implementation of small infrastructure projects in constituencies,” the government of St Lucia informed.
The Government of Saint Lucia thanked for the ROCT for its commitment to ensuring that communities are able to address their infrastructural needs, especially as it relates to climate resilience and adaptation projects.
The government stated that opposition-held constituencies and their constituents will no longer be disenfranchised as was done in the previous 5 years. All 17 elected Parliamentarians will receive an opportunity to implement projects of their choice.
The ceremony was attended by the PM of St Lucia – Philip J Pierre, who also shared a glimpse of the meeting.
Earlier, the Prime Minister received a courtesy visit from the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) President Lyndon Cooper and Chief Member Associations Officer for FIFA Kenny Jean-Marie and his delegation to discuss the projects and programmes to be implemented over the next four years.
The discussions were centred on the nexus between sports and the Youth Economy. He further expressed pleasure and stated, “I am pleased with the plans to encourage sports as a sustainable income-generating activity. I look forward to our people accessing the myriad of opportunities that will present themselves from the work of the SLFA and FIFA.”
