St Kitts and Nevis: The Government has announced that the SKN government has, since 2015, constructed around 504 homes in St Kitts.
This initiative has been helped many families of the island to ‘relieve the demand for housing’.
The Minister of Human settlement, Eugene Hamilton, expressed pride and said that he was proud of the government for providing homes to the deserving residents of the nation.
“I am proud of the record by the government in helping deserving individuals to own a piece of the rock that will likely remain in their family for generations,” he said.
As per the government of SKN, this initiative has helped in providing homes to the families surviving in the eight constituencies in St Kitts.
During the 15 edition of Leadership Matter, Human settlement minister Hamilton stated, “This is a significant achievement in this short period given the fact that from early 2020 we have been plagued by the pandemic, which has disrupted life as we knew it, causing much of the sector to be slow in producing homes during that particular period.”
Hamilton further notified that the houses constructed during the tenure of seven years of Timothy Harris-led administration had not been counted in the list of the 504 homes.
Of total 504 homes, 24 are the studio apartments at Ponds, and 15 are Petrocasas homes at Mansion Village. The Minister of Human Settlement mentioned that the studio apartments and Petrocases homes would provide a roof to another 39 families of St Kitts.
As per the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Hamilton informed, “Those two numbers together mean that another 39 families will benefit from the work of the Team Unity administration”.
The government of the SKN notified that the authorities would provide the keys to 15 houses on Friday, February 18, 2022. The ceremony would start at 4:00 in the evening.
This announcement came around two weeks after the government and the National Housing Corporation (NHC) provided 20 homes to the residents of the Stapleton community in St Peter’s.
The ceremony would include the remarks from Prime Minister Timothy Harris, Minister of Human Settlement Eugene Hamilton, and the Parliamentary Representatives of the area.
