Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The Government of St Kitts and Nevis is all set to host a National Consultation on citizens security on 22nd August 2024. It is a 90-day comprehensive campaign under the theme “90 Days of Intensity, a Whole Society Responsibility.”

This campaign will be conducted by the government with the motive of addressing crime and violence from a public health perspective by taking collaborative and community-driven approaches. These approaches will play a huge role in attracting stakeholders in developing comprehensive strategies with a vision to promote prevention and foster resilience, making St Kitts and Nevis a sustainable island state.

The National Consultation will include several subject matter experts, policymakers and community leaders who will share their insights on several topics. The topics that will be discussed include, youth violence, domestic violence, criminal justice system and the community policing. One of the main products for the National Consultation will be a National Action Plan for enhancing the security of the citizens.

While shedding light on this initiative, the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew stated that the National Consultation is a crucial step undertaken by his administration. He further added that it is one of the highlighting agenda of the government for creating a sustainable island state and leading the nation towards growth and development.

He stated that the administration has already initiated a preliminary discussion with stakeholders in order to ensure that National Consultation is inclusive and data driven. He continued to say that the safety and security of the citizens is everybody’s responsibility but the administration must take the lead in addressing issues and threats to the national security.

He further asserted that his government is committed to enhance the protection and ensuring safe communities. PM Drew added that “social protection” is also their crucial agenda and with the National Consultation and, by extension, the 90-Day Campaign, they will be successful in achieving their goal.

While emphasising the other activities that have been planned for the 90-day campaign includes, town hall meetings, career fairs, community outreach programmes and educational workshops. He stated that all these events will be conducted with their vision of enhancing the natural security and protecting the citizens of the country, therefore, leading the nation towards sustainable development.
