Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation, Dr Terrance Drew, who also serves as the Minister of Health visited to event in the nation, focusing on hearing impaired on March 16, 2023.

The event was organised by the St Kitts Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities (SKNAPD). The meeting was held at the Early Childhood Conference Room located at Victoria Road, Basseterre.

The update about the same was shared by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, which informed, “Earlier today I engaged in interactive discussions with the hearing impaired and parents at an event hosted by the St Kitts Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities (SKNAPD).”

The update by the Prime Minister of the Federation also informed that Dr Drew learned a bit of sign language, making it a fruitful session. “It was a fruitful and rather insightful dialogue, and I even learned a bit of sign language. It is never too late to learn something new,” the post read.

According to the social media post, the attendees were able to openly express their concerns and views on several issues that directly affect them.

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing & Disabilities regularly conducts workshops to improve the lives of the disabilities across the country. The recent update by the ministry informed that Discrimination and Inclusion Workshop was held at the Newtown Community Centre, St Kitts and Nevis, emphasising on the upliftment.

As per the official update, Janelle Lewis Tefarri (Permanent Secretary) addressed with the welcoming remarks by highlighting the importance of Inclusion from all aspects to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. The changes can be done to benefit the entire community.

Additionally, Dionte Foster shared his personal story to bring more awareness and to inspire others to achieve their goals despite the challenges also, Tekwana Wallace shared her personal experience of how others treat her.

The update further stated that Dr Glenville Liburd, Chair of the Community Based Rehabilitation Network, outlined the aim and strategy that works for persons with disabilities within the community to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families, meet their basic needs to ensure their Inclusion and participation.
