St Kitts and Nevis enhances abattoir operations during peak season

The Ministry of Agriculture of St Kitts and Nevis has introduced some early arrangements for the abattoir operations during the peak period.

The decision of arranging these services have taken with a motive of catering to the increased demand of the consumers, enhancing not only their satisfaction but also ensuring the effective and efficient operations of the local businesses and traders.

Notably, an abattoir is a facility where animals such as pig, cows or any other are slaughtered and processed into meat as a food item for human consumption. The St Kitts abattoir operations are known for following all the guidelines and ensuring the meat products are processed in sanitary conditions.

The authorities noted that during the week of 8th December, the abattoir will exclusively accommodate traders which will allow the better management of the high-volume processing. They asserted that they are committed to foster local businesses and traders and these special arrangements introduced by them will play a huge role in helping them to carry out their businesses without any disruption or delays.

Therefore, the agriculture ministry has asked all other livestock owners and persons to make the best utilization of this facility of the preceding weeks for slaughtering and processing their animals.

While shedding light on their operations, the Ministry of Agriculture noted that they will be facilitating a weekly maximum throughput of 110 small ruminants, 100 pigs and 7 cows. They added that their abattoir operations follow all the standards of humane slaughter and lairage, therefore they would not exceed the stated numbers and will follow all the protocols diligently.

Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture also urged the citizens to cooperate and coordinate with them in adhering to these arrangements. They noted that it is necessary for all the countrymen to assist them in this busy period as it is essential for maintain an efficient and safe operations.

They noted that these arrangements would not only satisfy the customer’s needs and demands but will also play a critical role in helping small businesses and traders by giving them an opportunity to sell these meat products and generate revenues.
