SKELEC to feature in Sustainable Business Magazine; step towards becoming sustainably powered nation

It marks a huge milestone for the St Kitts and Nevis Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) as it is all set to be featured in the Sustainable Business Magazine. This feature reflects their commitment towards becoming the first sustainably-powered nation in the Caribbean region.
While extending congratulations to SKELEC for their accomplishment, the Minister of Public Energy, Konris G Maynard stated that this feature is a testament to the commitment of the SKELEC towards creating a cleaner and greener future for the upcoming generation of the country.
Minister Maynard also lauded SKELEC and stated that they are committed towards advancing sustainable energy solutions, enhancing energy resilience and reducing environmental impact, aiming to transform energy landscape for the betterment of St Kitts and Nevis.
Moreover, SKELEC is the sole electric utility which was established in 2011 and is running as a private company with the government of St Kitts and Nevis. Today, SKELEC is providing energy to more than 20,000 customers across the island, reaching nearly the entire population, developing its network.
The General Manager for SKELEC, Clement Williams spoke to Sustainable Business Magazine and shed light on the biggest challenges being faced by them. He mentioned about battling for available resources from their markets including US, UK, Europe and Asia.
“To achieve an uninterrupted supply of electricity, what we try to do is have multiple suppliers so that we are able to benefit from competition and lower prices,” noted the General Manager of SKELEC.
He also mentioned making stringent efforts toward the government’s agenda of becoming a sustainable island state by 2030. He added that while procuring resources, they always keep in mind that whatever they purchase is not only affordable but also sustainable for the betterment of the environment.
Also, Sustainable Business Magazine is the publication which is solely focussed on sustainable business development. The content of the publication is based around three ore components of sustainable business development including, economic sustainability, environmental sustainability, and social sustainability.
This magazine plays a huge role in spreading awareness of the values of sustainability, as well as the ways in which institutions continue to meet challenges and champion corporate social responsibility.
