Jamaica: Jamaican sprinter and two times 200m double champion, Shericka Jackson has been replaced by Shashalee Forbes to compete in the 100m at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. The reason behind the replacement came out to be the injury she suffered earlier this month.
The news has been confirmed by the Jamaica athletics team manager, Ludlow Watts who stated that the sprint queen is not in the position to participate in the anticipated 100m. Therefore, they have decided to replace her with Shashalee Forbes who came 4th during the Jamaica Trials.
Moreover, Jackson will still be competing in the 200m and is now focusing on that. Jackson’s health status was in question, and several speculations were raised after she pulled up with an injury in the women’s 200m during a meeting in Hungary earlier this month. Notably, Jackson was leading the race with 50 metres to go but pulled up and limped across the finish line.
Following the announcement of her dropping from 100m, Shericka Jackson stated that she got hurt so she and her coach felt like that it was the best decision to run only in one event so that she could give her more than 100% in her better race i.e. 200m.
She further asserted that it was a combination of so much stuff that she doesn’t want to talk about but added that sometimes, a person had to go through a rocky road to get where they are trying to go.
Moreover, Jamaica Olympic Committee has expressed their excitement about all the athletes who have headed to Paris and are optimistic about their performance. The athletes who will be representing Jamaica in Paris 2024 includes, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, represent in 100m and 400m relay; Stacey-Ann Williams, Junelle Bromfield represent in 400m and 400m relay; Navasky Anderson in 800m; Ackera Nugent in 100m hurdles; Romaine Beckford in high jump; Charokee Young in 4x400m mixed relay and many others.
