Shemar Britton representing Guyana at 2021 Ecuador Open
Shemar Britton, the top table tennis player of Guyana, is representing the Caribbean island at the Ecuador Open 2021, which is starting from today.

                                                    Guyana: Shemar Britton, the top table tennis player of Guyana, is representing the Caribbean island at the Ecuador Open 2021, which is starting from today.
Ecuador Open is a part of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Contender Series.
Britton is a former Caribbean – Under-21 Men’s Singles champion, ‘2019 Caribbean Championship’ bronze medallist in the Singles competition, & Men’s Singles Under-21 silver medallist. He is also – National Men’s Singles runner-up and one of Guyana’s most talented players who is competing in the Men’s Singles in Ecuador, with his first match in the preliminary round set for today, which will commence at 10:45 hours.
The Guyana Table Tennis Association cited that, “This offers a great opportunity for Britton to have great match practice in evaluating where his game is after over an – 18-month hiatus from competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic”.
There will be numerous individual events which are – Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. All the events will be played via the Main Draw (knockout) and First Stage (Singles round-robin; Doubles– knockout).
The matches of – Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles will be best-of-7 games, while the Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles & Mixed Doubles will be best-of-five games.
Players across the world, including from Belgium, India, Peru, Puerto Rico, Austria and Mexico, are competing for the tournament.
Apart from this, the Guyanese Tennis association noted that “A budding lawyer, who attends the – University of the West Indies – UWI, is one of the strongest talents emanating from the ‘English-speaking Caribbean’, an Olympic Solidarity scholarship holder & prospect, he has shown his desire to qualify for the ‘Paris 2023 Olympics’ and expressed his intention of ramping up his training and competition schedule in his quest to achieve this set goal”.
The citizens have wished good luck and shown their support to Britton for the tournament.
