Saint Lucia to inaugurate Laborie Fair on March 22
The south coast village of Laborie is set to host its first-ever Laborie Fair in the temporary market behind Laborie Square on March 22.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The south coast village of Laborie is set to host its first-ever Laborie Fair in the temporary market behind Laborie Square on March 22. The Minister for External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs- Alva Baptiste, will deliver the opening address.
The fair is scheduled to be held from 8 am to 6 pm. The event is collaboratively organized by the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM), the Laborie/ Augier Constituency Council, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development.
Minister Baptiste will be accompanied by H E Peter Chia-Yen Chen, who is serving as Taiwan’s Ambassador to Saint Lucia. The farmers, fishermen and other agro-processors, especially entrepreneurs from the Youth Economy Agency (YEA) will get an opportunity to showcase their goods and services.
Following are the items which are supposed to be displayed at the event by local and neighbouring communities,
– Cocoa sticks
– Meals
– Fruits and vegetables
– Ground provisions
– Coconut oil
– Sea moss
– Castor oil
– Honey
– Local juices
– Jewellery
The live music by the Laborie Steel Pan Orchestra will be the main highlight of the event. Moreover, officials from the Ministry of Health will be available at the fair, and they will conduct a chronic disease risk assessment.
Noting this, they will examine blood sugar testing, body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure testing. Apart from the entertainment, Joni Meluce, serving as the Clerk at the Laborie Constituency Council, added that this fair is expected to bring positive outcomes and prove beneficial for the general public.
“In the past, we hosted Festen Labowi on the last Friday of each month. That event has been paused for a while, but we’re trying to revitalize it, so this fair is a great way to continue the Festen Labowi. We want people from across Saint Lucia to come out and taste what we’re offering while enjoying the beautiful Laborie scenery”, Meluce said.
Additionally, the event is going to be a huge success as it is open to every individual in the Federation. It will offer several opportunities to enhance business skills and promote goods and services on such a huge platform.
