Saint Lucia: Pre-planned water supply shutdown in North, WASCO shares

The Water and Sewerage Company Inc (WASCO) informed the residents of Saint Lucia that there would be a disruption in the water supply system on Friday due to a damaged pipeline. Due to this, the low water pressure will precede a temporary shutdown in the Northern-wide system.

The repair work will begin on March 1, so the supply of water to the northern section from Millet to Cap Estate will be restricted from 6:00 am so that the consumers will experience a short-term interruption in the water.

The team will examine the pipelines to recover the problem of leakage and repair them. The CEO, Zilta George-Leslie, stated that due to such issues, there would be an interruption in the water supplies, and some regions may experience a reduced water flow.

Further, these reparations are needed to improve the overall water supply system and its reliability to the residents.

“So, some people from the evening of the 29th or so may experience low pressures”, added CEO Leslie.

WASCO CEO further added that the team will begin the work on Saturday, and it will conclude by Sunday.

The pipelines for the water supply will open on a Sunday evening, and there is a possibility that consumers may experience a shortage of water on that day also as they can not increase the flow of the water all of a sudden.

It is to be noted that some regions will have access to the water shortage lately. The regions included Grande Riviere, Norbert, Bella Rosa, Monchy, Piat, and Beausejour as they existed at the higher elevations.

WASCO expressed its commitment to conclude the repairs promptly and revealed that the restoration work is expected to be completed in 48 hours. The reduction of flows in rivers has affected the land, and it is a result of climate change.

The company urged residents to prepare themselves with the storage of potable water in advance to avoid any interruption in their daily lives.

Notably, persons in affected areas are eligible to receive supply via the water trucking services provided by WASCO.
