Residents of Mahaica-Berbice region receives certificate in Commercial Food Preparation, Garment Construction, Cosmetology and Agro-processing programmes

Guyana: Ministry of Labour and the Board of Industrial Training Guyana informed that 120 individuals in the Mahaica-Berbice region are now equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to be employed in the areas of Commercial Food Preparation, Garment Construction, Cosmetology and Agro-processing programmes administered by the Board of Industrial Training.

The certificate ceremony was attended by the Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, BIT’s Chief Executive Officer; Richard Maughn, BIT’s Human Resource Officer; Melinda Kelly, BIT’s Vice Chairman; Rion Peters, Regional Chairman; Vickchanand Ramphal and other officials.

BIT’s CEO, Maughn, in brief remarks that today’s ceremony demonstrates the graduates’ willingness to receive technical skills to benefit from emerging industries in Guyana.

With this in mind, he urged them to learn how to shape themselves to prepare for the vast opportunities in the region. As such, he believes that they must advance themselves through additional training programmes.

Minister Hamilton told the graduates that they are now part of an incredible achievement for BIT as it has been able to train over One Thousand residents within the county for 2022. This, he said, is a significant improvement for the agency in keeping with Government’s intention to build its human resources.

It also shows BIT’s capability under the tutelage of the PPP/C Government, which the minister noted will continue to ensure all Guyanese are given the opportunity to better their lives. He also noted that continued collaboration with the Regional Administration would allow BIT to train more persons as promised.

At the end of the ceremony, both beneficiaries of the Agro-Processing and Garment Construction programmes took this opportunity to showcase their talent by presenting several items and products they created during their respective programmes.

School Uniforms, Pillowcases, Pot Holder, Purses, Apron, Hair Holder, Wines, Guava Jam, Achars, and Pickled Onions, among others were on display at the small exhibition.
