Castries, Saint Lucia: The reconstruction of the much-awaited project- Morne Lay-by-Park has completed in Saint Lucia on Friday. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Tourism, who said that the park is aimed to support street vendors and local business holders.
It is to be noted that the Ministry of Tourism delivered vending trays and branded polos to each licensed vendor at the Morne Lay-By Park site. The things were distributed to the vendors in order to facilitate the reconstruction of a new and improved facility in the original location.
The Ministry of Tourism of Saint Lucia has ensured that it will continue to work closely with the National Conservation Authority to provide all the resources and facilities for the vendors’ comfort.
Notably, The National Conservation Authority (NCA) was established in 1999 to replace the Parks and Beaches Commission of St. Lucia. The NCA is an Agency of the Ministry of Social Transformation, Community Empowerment and Local Government.
Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information of Saint Lucia hosted the opening of the Morne Layby on 8 October 2024. The Ministry led the establishment of the park as an alternative venue for its Morne Lay-by vendors.
About Morne Layby Park
The Morne Layby is a beautiful location which has been serving vendors and travellers for many years. The Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information of the nation collaborated with the Morne layby vendors. The collaboration was done with the vision to identify a safe and secure alternative scenic stop in order to replace the current scenic lookout.
A new alternative site, located several yards north of the Morne layby and directly opposite the Governor General’s entrance gate, was established with the consent of the Tourism Ministry and the vendors of the Morne layby.
The alternative site was established with the purpose of serving vendors, tourists and visitors with various facilities such as toilets and safe spaces for vending opportunities. Along with that, it will also offer visitors a striking view of the Castries Harbour and the north of the island.
