PM Roosevelt Skerrit congratulates India for administering 1 billion COVID vaccines

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has appreciated the efforts of the Indian government in COVID-19 vaccination and reaching the 100 billion doses milestone.

On Friday, PM went on Twitter to congratulate his Indian counterpart – Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the successful administration of over 1 billion coronavirus vaccines in India.

PM Skerrit wrote on his Twitter, “I Congratulate @narendramodi for leading India into a massive vaccination campaign and successfully administering over 1 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. Together, we must work closely in our fight against the global pandemic.”

While replying to PM Skerrit’s tweet, Indian PM Modi said, “Thank you @SkerritR for your kind words. Agree with you that we must work together in our collective fight against the pandemic. #VaccineCentury.”

Furthermore, the Indian Prime Minister Tweeted that the nation scripted history by achieving this milestone in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a hospital in Delhi to mark the milestone, congratulated the country and called it – “the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians”.

India has vaccinated more than 1 Billion people in a time period of over nine months since the COVID-19 vaccination drive commenced in the country.

The five states who have administered the highest number of COVID-19 doses of India are – Uttar Pradesh, followed by Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier in May, India witnessed a massive rise in daily COVID infections, which now has declined to a significant number. Even then, PM Skerrit had expressed solidarity.

Besides PM Skerrit, other Caribbean leaders – Dr Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, and Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda also congratulated the Indian leader.

WHO Director-General – Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also tweeted and appreciated the efforts of the Indian government in vaccinating its population.

India was also one of the first countries to deliver coronavirus vaccines to the Caribbean. Dominica was the first beneficiary in the Caribbean to be benefitted from the “Vaccine Maitiri Initiative” of the government of India.
