PM Keith Rowley expresses pride as Trinidad and Tobago acclaimed as choice of intl community to preside over business of UNGA78
Trinidad and Tobago PM Dr Keith Rowley, commended their representatives in New York for their outstanding work. As a result, the international community chose Trinidad and Tobago to preside over the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Dr Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, congratulated representative of the nation for their excellent work in New York, resulting in signal honour of the acclamation of Trinidad and Tobago as the choice of the international community to preside over the business of the Seventy-Eighth Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Prime Minister Rowley took it his official social media account and congratulated the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator Dr Amery Browne, Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations and the team from the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs, at home and at the United Nations in New York, for the excellent campaign that was executed, which resulted in the signal honour of the acclamation of Trinidad and Tobago as the choice of the international community to preside over the business of the Seventy-Eighth Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) next September.
Prime Minister further mentioned that this result is an acknowledgement of the high esteem in which nation (Trinidad and Tobago) is held and is proof of Trinidadian mantra that may be small in size but not insignificant in stature.
Further, PM Keith Rowley highlighted, “As Prime Minister, I extend our sincerest thanks to the very many countries that supported and encouraged us and whose staff worked alongside our people in the full understanding that Ambassador Francis and Trinidad and Tobago represent all the best of the high ideals of the United Nations.”
He furthermore outlined that as a leader among small island developing states (SIDS), the heads of the states confidently look forward to a successful conference under the theme of “peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability”.
As per the official update, the latest session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) will start from September 5, 2023 (Tuesday). Reportedly, the first day of the general debate will held on September 19, 2023.
