Panam Sports honours Dominica and Saint Lucia for their participation in Paris Olympics 2024

Panam Sports recognized Dominica and Saint Lucia for their exceptional performance and achievement at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. These awards were presented at the Panam Sports General Assembly on Wednesday, 2^nd October, 2024 at Asuncion, Paraguay.

Panam Sports is an international organization that represents the 41 current National Olympic Committees of the American continent. It is considered the leader of the Olympic movement in the Americas, driving the development of sport and supporting 41-member national Olympic committees throughout the continent.

Therefore, they acknowledged the outstanding performances and participation by Dominica and Saint Lucia in Paris Olympics 2024. For the same, they awarded the Presidents of their Olympic Committee for not just their performance and also for registering history by winning their first ever Olympic gold medals.

The awards were presented by the President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic and COI President Thomas Bach to Billy Doctrove, the President of Dominica Olympic Committee; and Alfredo Emanuelle, the President of Saint Lucia Olympic Committee.

After winning the award, both the Presidents of their respective Olympic Committees called this recognition an historic moment. They extended gratitude to the management of the Panam Sports and ensured to continue to make efforts in order to elevate the sports sector of the Caribbean region to greater heights.

Dominica

Thea Lafond made the historic jump, winning the first-ever gold medal for the nation in theWomen’s Triple Jump at the Paris Olympics 2024. She not only claimed the medal but also broke the national record with a jump of 15.02 meters, represented the best jump for 2024 to bring the first-ever Olympic medal for the country.

Saint Lucia

Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia becomes the first-ever athlete to win double Olympic medals. She won the gold medal in the Women’s 100m race, clocking a time of 10.72 sec and finished second in the 200m race in the time of 22.08 sec, claiming a silver medal.

These remarkable victories by these two small island nations have earned them new recognition and, these achievements have played a huge role in positioning these countries on the global map in the sports sector.
