Barbados: Prime Minister Mottley declared that to date, over 27,176 persons in Barbados had received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, and counting is still on.
Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, with other members, visited Maurice Byer Polyclinic Station Hill, St. Peter, yesterday.
PM Mia Mottley, along with Minister of Health Lt. Col. Jeffrey Bostic and other health officials, went to the Maurice Byer Polyclinic Station Hill, St. Peter.
The tour was led by the Medical Officer of Health at the polyclinic, Cheryl McCollin, and Senior Health Sister Shermane Welch.
Barbados have received vaccines as a token of a gift from India . But, they followed the rule of humanity and shared these vaccines with other CARICOM sister islands. Guyana, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Belize secured their first consignment of Oxgord Astra Zeneca vaccines from Barbados.
Forty-two persons were diagnosed with coronavirus on Wednesday, February 24. The new COVID-19 cases were recognized from the 829 tests held by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.
A total of 79 individuals also recovered from the coronavirus. The number of active COVID-19 cases on the island is now 746.
The 42 positive COVID-19 cases included 24 women and 18 men. Eight of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing evaluation to determine whether their positive PCR test outcome showed that they were, in fact, newly positive or whether they had the virus in the past and were no longer contagious.
The other 34 COVID cases were Barbadians. Barbados has reported 2,949 confirmed cases, 1,369 ladies and 1,580 males – and 2,171 persons have redeemed. There have been 32 deaths from the viral ailment. The public health laboratory has so far finished 123,470 tests.
There were 3,501 persons who were immunized on Wednesday as part of the National Vaccination Programme for coronavirus. Till now, a total of 25,578 vaccinations have been conducted – 11,155 men and 14,423 women.
Savitri St John commented, “There are European countries that still have not given a single vaccine…and we are going to hit 30K given tomorrow – if that is not awesome, I don’t know what is.”
