New travel requirements for travelers to Guyana: Ministry of Health

The Health Ministry of Guyana updated various protocols for foreign travellers. They have to follow different protocols for entering Guyana. The protocols have been made to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

According to the new requirements by the Ministry of Health that should be followed by the travellers to enter Guyana. All travellers should be fully vaccinated if they want to enter Guyana.

All the foreign travellers flying to Guyana are expected to show their vaccination proof on their arrival in Guyana. Every fully vaccinated traveller would also have to take a molecular COVID-19 RNA PCR test within the time duration of 72 hours prior to their arrival to the Caribbean island.

The government of Guyana said that every fully vaccinated traveller should have to follow the COVID-19 travel protocols of the island country and highlighted that the visitors who have taken mixed required doses of the COVID-19 vaccines would also be considered fully vaccinated against the mutant.

The travellers have also been asked to present real-time PCR test results showing their name at the airline check-in counter and to the Port Health Officer on their arrival to Guyana island.

Following the statement, the Guyanese government further informed that individuals whose test was taken before 72 hours prior to their arrival or less than seven days would be required to have a second RT-PCR test on their arrival to the Caribbean island.

The travellers who had conducted their COVID-19 test prior 72 hours would not be tested on their arrival until the Port Health Officer decides that it would be necessary to perform the coronavirus test based on the signs or symptoms identified at the time or of the travellers who would be the suspected cases of COVID-19 infection.

Currently, Guyana has a total of 22,523 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 infection, while around 21,183 individuals have been recovered from the deadly mutant. So far, a total of 541 deaths have been reported in the island country.
