Castries, Saint Lucia: The Sports Ministry of Saint Lucia made significant installations at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, which include new lighting, an electronic scoreboard, a replay screen, and many more. All these items were upgraded at the stadium with a vision to transform the playing facility into a premier destination for global events.
Notably, several journalists from various media outlets on the island were given a tour of the upgrades made by the management at the stadium. All of them were presented with a first-hand look at the upgrades for the upcoming International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup matches in Saint Lucia.
The tour was attended by Kenson Casimir, Minister of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia, staff of the Office of the Prime Minister, staff of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports and representatives from the Ministry of Finance and National Lotteries Authority.
Moreover, the sports authority also renovated the entire roofing at the facility, also made an appealing player’s locker room to include hot and cold water, chill tubs as well as full conditioned media centre.
With all these upgrades, the sports authority aims to enhance the overall conditions of the stadium with a vision to provide memorable and comfortable experiences to all the players and attendees. Notably, some of the work is still undergoing on the outside perimeter (car park) which is anticipating to be complete before the opening encounter between Australia and Scotland.
Such continued efforts towards improving the facilities of the ground shed light on the unwavering commitment and dedication of the management for providing an experience filled with unforgettable memories. The sports management stated that they are making all the possible efforts in order to ensure transparency and authenticity of the game. They stated the installation of a new electronic screen board and replay screen is proof that the sports management aims to promote fair play.
Saint Lucia will host three games in the qualifying round on June 15th, 16thand 17th and three matches will be conducted in the Super 8 slated for June 19th, 21st and 24th. The entire sports management as well as tourism sector is anticipating that these matches being scheduled to play at Darren Sammy Cricket Ground will attract large number of visitors to the country and will further enhance the economic conditions of the nation.
