Nevis wins 52nd Leeward Islands Debating Competition, Premier Mark Brantley congratulates
Premier Mark Brantly extended congratulations to Team Nevis for emerging victorious in the 52nd Leeward Islands Debating Competition. The finals were scheduled to take place on Sunday, 3rd March at the Royal St Kitts Hotel Conference Room 406 Zenway Blvd, Frigate Bay, St Kitts.

Nevis: Premier Mark Brantley congratulated Team Nevis for emerging victorious in the 52nd Leeward Islands Debating Competition. The finals were scheduled for Sunday, 3rd March at the Royal St Kitts Hotel Conference Room 406 Zenway Blvd, Frigate Bay, St Kitts.
The topic for the final of the debating competition was “The feminist movement has become focused on attacking men rather than promoting the equality of women.” The final round was conducted between St Kitts and Nevis. Team Nevis opposed the moot and shared their views and opinions with complete confidence.
Team Nevis was represented by two speakers Mikaela Maynard and Jeran Webb. The award for the Best Speaker was given to Mikaela Maynard for sharing her views on the topic in a clear and confident manner.
Moreover, in their first debate competition, Nevis came up against Montserrat and shared their opinions on the moot “Higher education institutions should ban the use of Artificial Intelligence in academic discourse.”
The debate from Team Nevis was represented by Hrishikesh Srinivasan and Miss Kaylana Parry. The Best Speaker of the Debate was given to Hrishikesh Srinivasan for her intelligence, confidence and public speaking.
Such kinds of debating competitions are a great way of enhancing knowledge, improving public speaking among youth and improving their self-confidence and self-esteem. Such competitions teach the skills of researching and presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
Along with that, such activities also play a pivotal role in building teamwork and collaboration skills and expanding the individual’s knowledge on diverse topics.
