During the Nation address, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, declared 24 hrs lockdown over the Nevis. PM Harris said that from Saturday, July 3, 2021, the island of Nevis would be under similar lockdown restrictions to their sister island of St Kitts till Monday, July 12, 2021.
PM Dr Harris said that the restriction measures that were taken on sister island Nevis were not the same as the measures on St Kitts. Due to this reason, Nevis has been recording its new cases at a high pace.
Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley said that he recognized that those restrictions cause hardship and inconvenience to their people and to their business community. Premier Brantley said that he sincerely regrets such hardship. Premier Brantley highlighted that the recent positive Covid cases of Nevis and the continuous contact tracing had created great attention among our healthcare professionals. The decision had not been taken lightly, but they were primarily bothered with the preservation of life and the protection of their people.
The process of tracing continues, Premier Brantley prayerful that there would be no more positive cases, but they simply cannot be sure. The upcoming days, therefore, would allow their health team to undertake the contact tracing more efficiently and permit them to reset and recharge themselves for the continuing battle ahead.
Premier Brantley, while levelling up the morale of the citizens, said that the day marks a retreat for Nevis, but they would not surrender. They should never ever surrender to that enemy of Covid19.
Prime Minister urged that the national vaccination effort would be resuming on Thursday, July 8, 2021.
While encouraging the citizens of Nevis for vaccination, Premier Brantley said that once again, the people of Nevis should go out and get vaccinated and help themselves avoid the lockdowns, curfews, quarantines, and other restrictions. With these steps, they would restart their economy.
