The Charlestown Pre-School of Nevis marked significant upgrades including the completion of the roof, freshly painted walls and installation of new windows and doors in order to benefit students with advanced and comfortable services.
This rehabilitation work currently being undertaken at the Charlestown Preschool will play a huge role in improving durability, energy efficiency and security, providing overall a vibrant environment, making the school more welcoming and safer for children and their families.
As the new academic year 2024/2025 has started and the construction is currently undergoing, therefore the staff and students have been temporarily housed at the Albertha Payne Community Centre to ensure that teaching and learning continue.
The authorities stated that the completed product of the school would be a modern, child-friendly facility that would better serve the needs of the staff and students.
Notably, the school was opened in September 1983 and since then, it has served several generations of children from the general community.
The authorities have till now made several expansions to the schools including, the improvement of the roofs, building separate bathrooms for girls and boys, construction of the principal’s office and many more with a vision to create more inclusive space so that the school can work more effectively and efficiently.
With a vision to make significant investments and accommodate larger number of student population, the authorities aim to make Charlestown Pre-School as one of the largest elementary schools in the area.
The authorities aim to equip schools with advanced and innovative facilities in order to enhance the educational experience of all the students. The authority’s main motive behind this process is to advance technologies and provide new electronic equipment to all the students and staff members in order to improve creativity and encourage students to investigate a wide variety of content to advance their education.
Troy Liburd, Minister of Education, also outlined the scope and details of the renovation work and stated that all these expansions would ensure a more productive, safe, advanced and vibrant learning and teaching experience.
Moreover, Premier Mark Brantley also reiterated their commitment to foster education sector and provide updated technological infrastructure and enhance the overall educational environment.
