Dominica: Senator and Minister of State in the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica Oscar George shared a tip on travelling to the north of Dominica.
He stated that the tourist must consider the “Cold Soufriere” a stop while planning a road trip to the north of Dominica.
He invited the tourists and mentioned, “Your next road trip to the north of Dominica should include a stop at the ‘Cold Soufriere’ in the community of Penville.”
Senator further thanked Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, for always prioritising the tourism sector and focusing on the development of these unique sites. He also lauded the Ministry of Tourism for monitoring the site.
“Special thanks to Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit for prioritising this very unique site. Also, the Ministry of Tourism for playing its part in ensuring that the site is well kept,” he said.
He at last concluded and appealed to the tourists to come and visit this mesmerising location. He was quoted as “It’s worth it. Come check it out for yourself.”
Cold Soufriere is a unique sulphur spring, witness sulphur and calcium-rich water in this cold sulphur spring along the picturesque north coast.
In many of the islands in the Eastern Caribbean, geothermal activity is evident, and this has resulted in a number of areas being referred to as “Soufrière”. As is the case for many of these Soufrières, there are pools of bubbling water and a smell of sulphurous gases being released into the atmosphere.
Cold Soufriere is special because all the pools have cold water and no fumaroles belching out steam or hot gases (hence the name Cold Soufriere). There are more than seventeen pools in the Cold Soufrière, and it is believed that the sulphur found in the area is a good skin cleanser, and the mud can be used as a face mask.
