Jamaica: Citizens of St James follows COVID-19 protocols to mitigate the spread

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness said that he has been feeling fear to face another COVID-19 spike in Jamaica. He also supported his decision to reopen the entertainment industry. According to PM Holness, the COVID-19 protocols have been amended.

PM Holness announced that the entertainments events and the parties had been allowed by the government to be organized on the island from the July 1.

Prime Minister Holness announced that parties and other entertainment events would be allowed to be held on the island as of July 1. Many other organizations, including the Jamaica Teachers Association and the Medical Association, raised concerns that the reopening of the sector was too much.

The Prime Minister defended his decision of opening the entertainment industry by saying that he would not allow them to suffer those who depend on the entertainment industry.

PM Holness asked that he wanted them to be practical and just think practically. How long can they continue to do that? How long? Suppose vaccines didn’t come? Suppose the vaccines would not be effective? Can they continue just shut down the country and don’t do any economic activity?

Prime Minister Holness says that just like many organizations and citizens, he is also fearful that the reopening could lead to another COVID-19 spike. But he said he is confident that Jamaicans will adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.

PM Holness said that he too had the fear that there might probably be a spike, but he had great faith and confidence in their people that there has an element of indiscipline and disobedience in their population, thank God that there has still a large number of responsible people in leadership and in the general citizenry who would protect themselves and their families and communities in responsible action.

Prime Minister Holness said that citizens might take responsibility for preventing another surge of the virus. PM Holness said that just like every other industry currently had opened, the entertainment sector would have to abide by the COVID-19 protocols outlined by the government if they want to stay open.
