Jamaica’s health ministry calls for caution against respiratory diseases
Jamaica’s health ministry said that they have reported few cases of respiratory issues such as COVID-19 and Influenza A (H1N1).

Kingston, Jamaica: The Ministry of Health encouraged the general public to practice a healthy lifestyle to avoid sickness. While the flu season has ended, other respiratory viruses remain in circulation.
The ministry said that they have reported a few cases of respiratory issues such as COVID-19 and Influenza A (H1N1). The Ministry’s National Surveillance Unit revealed that the cases related to respiratory infections are below the epidemic levels.
Noting this, the authorities are urging the people of Jamaica to follow necessary precautions to protect themselves by perceiving prevention and control measures. The people may practice the following measures to avoid illness.
- One should always wash their hands, following coughing and sneezing, especially at the public places.
- The people are encouraged to use handwashing products or sanitizer to keep themselves clean and hygienic.
- Drink plenty of water to stay immune.
- The nationals are suggested to wear masks during outdoor activities.
- Stay away from the vulnerable persons.
Moreover, it is highly important to adopt the healthy lifestyle by exercising daily and the best way to keep immune and healthy is to consumed more water, eat healthy and take adequate rest and relaxation. It is evident to note that the people with strong immune system are less likely to be affected by the viruses.
The National Surveillance Unit noted that respiratory virus such as SARS CoV2 is the most frequently identified virus, which is followed by Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Influenza A H1N1, and Influenza A H3N2.
Therefore, the citizens of Jamaica are reminded to take influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, which are available at almost every medical facility. This advisory is issued especially for the vulnerable population, including the elderly adults, pregnant women, children and the healthcare workers.
It is strictly advised to the individuals with persistent or worsening symptoms to seek the medical attention when they observe the first sign of the respiratory symptoms.
