Indian Army organises snow cricket activity for women in North Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir, India: A Women’s Snow Cricket competition was held on Thursday at Panzgam hamlet in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district as part of the Khelo India programme.

Jammu and Kashmir, India: A Women’s Snow Cricket competition was held on Thursday at Panzgam hamlet in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district as part of the Khelo India programme. Four teams from Kralpora and Meelyal Block competed in the event.
The Army official said, “At a first-of-its-kind event, young ladies played cricket on a snowy field in Kupwara, showcasing the locals’ love of sports. The girls played the game with great passion and enthusiasm.”
Public officials and townspeople witnessed the first-ever girls-only winter sports competition in the region. The Army mentioned, “Local ladies participated heavily in these periodic festivities held by the Indian Army in Kupwara.”
It further added, “A significant shift is being brought about by the Army’s numerous initiatives, such as the creation of skill development centres and the holding of competitions in schools to encourage involvement in extracurricular activities and sports. The Indian Army is dedicated to encouraging local youngsters to participate in sports.”
“I’m appreciative that the Indian Army gave us the opportunity to take part in this activity. In Kashmir, a cricket match is now being played on snow for the first time,” Saira Bashir (Player) said while speaking to ANI.
Another player, Mir Bushra, outlined, “I really enjoyed it. Only during the summer did we play cricket. We are appreciative that the Indian Army held a cricket match in the snow in Kashmir. Such programmes ought to continue in order to reveal the latent talent of females and everyone else taking part in such events.”
As per ANI, Naseema Banu, the third player, mentioned, “I urge everyone to take part in these activities on behalf of all girls in order to showcase their potential and advance in life.” Local ladies participated heavily in these periodic festivities held by the Indian Army in Kupwara.
Positive change is being brought about by a number of Army initiatives, including the creation of skill development centres and the holding of competitions in schools to encourage involvement in extracurricular activities and sports.
