Manipur, India: According to officials, one of the key connection projects for the Northeastern area, the Jiribam-Imphal new line railway project had made progress of 93.30 percent on Sunday.

“Among other connectivity projects, construction is underway on this new line railway project to link Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, to the rest of the nation. Physical development on the Jiribam-Imphal project has already reached 93.30 percent,” said Sabyasachi De, CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway.

The Jiribam-Imphal railway project’s construction, according to the NF Railway CPRO, entails building numerous tunnels and bridges over difficult terrain over a distance of more than 111 kilometres.

“This project involves constructing 61.32 km of tunnels, 59.11 km of which have already been constructed. Eleven (11) main bridges and 137 minor bridges will be included in the project in total, with work on five (5) major bridges and 101 minor bridges already finished. The 141-meter-tall largest pier railway bridge in the world is also being built as part of this project,” Sabyasachi De said.

Indian Railways is implementing a number of new railway line projects that will considerably aid in the transformation of the Northeastern states. Under capital connectivity initiatives, new railway lines are being built to link all of the state capitals in the northeastern region. The Jiribam-Imphal new line railway project, which is nearly finished, is one of the region’s most important connectivity initiatives.

He added that the Jiribam to Khongsang segment has already been authorised for train service.

“Once the entire project is finished, the current 10-hour road trip to Imphal from Jiribam will take only 2.5 hours, thanks to the railroads. NF Railway is giving this project it’s all and working nonstop, despite obstacles like strong weather and other logistical difficulties,” stated Sabyasachi De, adding, “The new rail project will improve the connection for the people of Manipur, support the development of local small businesses, and increase tourism in the region.”

The NF Railway’s CPRO also stated that it would facilitate the state’s faster receipt of necessary supplies and facilitate the export of state-produced goods abroad. He continued, “The state’s economy will be benefitted at a larger level.”
