High Commission of Canada in Barbados & the OECS participates in CREF 2023

Caribbean: The 15th annual Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) was hosted at the JW Marriott Marquis in Miami, Florida, on April 26-28, 2023. The official website of CREF 2023 has stated that this year the event was a success as leaders from around 50 countries attended the event.
It has further outlined that more than 450 policymakers, developers, utilities, financiers and investors from across energy, climate, technology finance, and industry at CREF 2023 for the Caribbean energy event.
The High Commission of Canada in Barbados & the OECS were among all the leaders and diplomats. The Commission took it to social media and expressed pleasure in being one of the participants of the event.

Now in its fifteenth year, the CREF is an annual meeting place for more than 400 energy sector and finance leaders united in a goal to ramp up investment in clean energy across the Caribbean, according to the social media post by the High Commission.
Furthermore, as per the update, First Secretary (Development) and Alternate Director to the Caribbean Development Bank Dorothée Roy offered opening remarks at the Island Resilience Action Challenge (IRAC) held on the margins of CREF 2023.
“The IRAC aims to identify actionable solutions to build grid resilience in the Caribbean. Canada is proud to support regional partners as we build a more resilient Caribbean,” the post read.
According to the official site of CREF, the response was overwhelming. Around 450+ public and private sector leaders from 50 countries were present in Miami for what was by far the greatest gathering of the region’s energy market in 2023.
“Now, the focus on the energy transition has pointed. The pressure to decarbonize, global geopolitical tensions, as well as the critical need for energy independence have thrust clean and green energy to the top of the Caribbean agenda. The time for talk as well as targets has passed. How to translate this new urgency into progress and projects? Ultimately, how do we transition clean energy over the finish line?” mentioned the website.
