Guyana: Labour Ministry continues its sensitization outreach programmes
Guyana: The Ministry of Labour continued its Sensitization Outreach in Port Kaituma, Matarkai sub-district of Region One.

Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour continued its Sensitization Outreach in Port Kaituma, Matarkai sub-district of Region One, targeting persons working at restaurants, small shops, wholesale and retail establishments, markets and other businesses, as per the update by the ministry on April 20, 2023.
As per the social media update, a team from the ministry comprised of Senior Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer Maxean Bess and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer Chavez Ahmed Daniels also conducted inspections at these locations to establish the degree of compliance and safety for all workers in the workplace.
Informative booklets and brochures were also given to the participants by the ministry to create awareness about safe working conditions and child labour in the workplace.
In addition to this, the Labour Ministry has also informed about another activity performed by the team. It mentioned that several Region Five Secondary students benefitted from a Sensitization Outreach on Safe and Health practices in the workplace and at home On Thursday, April 20, 2023.
The Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department conducted the exercise, which targeted Woodley Park, Fort Wellington and Bushlot Secondary Schools.
According to the update, it was conducted by the Region Five OSH Officer, Babita Singh, with the support of the Regional Education Department- Keane Adams and Regional Educational Officer and Senior Education Officer, Lalchand Salik.
Furthermore, the Labour Ministry of Guyana The Regional Labour Office of the Ministry of Labour in Springlands, Corriverton, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) raised the Occupational Safety and Health banner to raise awareness about Safety and Health in the workplace.
This is the observance of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Month 2023, with the theme “A Safe and Healthy Working Environment is a Fundamental Principle and Right at Work.”
Accordingly, it is one of many initiatives planned to celebrate OSH Month 2023 in the ministry’s commitment to preventing workplace accidents and saving employees’ lives.
