Guyana: Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, praised thirty-two (32) Region Nine women for participating in solar photovoltaic training through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Funded by the Inter America Development Bank (IDB), the training programme is a collaborative effort between the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) and the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA). It aims to strengthen the energy sector and integrate women into the industry.
Minister Hamilton told the trainees that he appreciated their participation in the programme as it demonstrates their willingness to go beyond what is accepted as a profession for women in society.
“I am grateful that you are thinking outside of the box, and so I ask all of you to do not to drop out of this programme for your sake and the sake of your region,” he said.
The minister noted that the programme’s completion would guarantee the ministry’s intention to build capacity in the region. As such, the region will no longer depend on professionals from region four and other areas to install and maintain solar panels.
This is one of many training programmes being undertaken by the ministry in Lethem, Bartica and Mahdia to train 200 women in Basic Solar Photovoltaic Technology.
