Guyana: Government vows continued support for digital advancement

Georgetown, Guyana: Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), Mark Phillips said that the Government will continue to support the digital sphere in Guyana through the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), according to the information shared by the Office of the Prime Minister earlier this week.

As per the update, he told stakeholders at the closing ceremony of the Innovation Challenge that the drive is to create an enabling digital environment for all Guyanese.

“Our Government is committed to ensuring that ICTs are a part of all sectors in Guyana, we must ensure that our country can leverage the benefits of ICTs and that all persons can access these benefits as part of the fast-paced, technologically-driven world in which we exist,” according to the update shared by the Office of the PM.

The annual three-day coding competition, held under the aegis of the Prime Minister’s Office, through the Industry and Innovation Unit, concluded today at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre (ACCC).

Prime Minister Phillips commended the ‘hackathon’ participants, noting that the event gave ICT enthusiasts a chance to demonstrate their abilities, develop teamwork and enhance their communication skills.

The update also informed that “You have demonstrated resilience and adaptability, learning from each experience and refining your strategies. Your ability to overcome challenges is a testament to your character and the life skills you’ve developed through this competition. These qualities are the root of success, not just in STEM and the use of ICT, but in any endeavour that you choose to pursue in your lives.”

Reportedly, the Prime Minister called the participants “change makers and said that they will inspire new participants to join the challenge.

He also congratulated the Industry and Innovation Unit for exercising its mandate effectively and SBM Offshore Guyana for their commitment to their cooperate social responsibility.

Meanwhile, to further the initiative’s growth, the Senior Government Official called for greater private-sector partnerships.
