Guyana and Chile commemorates 50 years of diplomatic relations

Guyana: President of Guyana – Dr Irfaan Ali attended a party to commemorate the 50thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the Republic of Chile.

The Head of State and the Chilean Ambassador to Guyana, Juan Manuel Pino Vasquez, exchanged gifts and stated that Chile remains committed to continuing bilateral relations with Guyana.

Guyana’s President also gave Chile’s Ambassador a painting entitled “Elusive 2” – a self-motivated and inspired painting done by local artist Dillon Craig, highlighting Guyana’s natural beauty. The painting also includes Mount Roraima and the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls. The piece also consists of the powerful raptor, the Harpy Eagle and Guyana’s national animal, the Jaguar.

While the Ambassador of Chile presented President Ali with a framed piece of tapestry especially made for the occasion by a “Mapuche artisan” from Chile who belongs to an organisation that seeks to generate fair trade and the development of the indigenous Chilean ancestral culture.

Despite this, the formal gathering was also attended by the several government ministers that took place at the Pegasus Hotel.

Guyana and Chile placed diplomatic relations on July 22, in the year 1971.
Both the nations are full members of the Latin American and Caribbean States Community and the Union of South American Nations. Chile has an embassy in Georgetown. Guyana is accredited to Chile from its embassy in Brasília, Brazil.

In addition, according to the statistics, there are a total of 27,301 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 mutant, while till now, a total of 659 people in Guyana lost their lives to the deadliest virus.

As per the reports of the Health Ministry, till September 8, 2021, a total of 325,095 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 170,125 individuals have received their second dose and are now fully vaccinated against the mutant.
