26-year-old Shemar Singh has been sentenced to a 20-year jail term for killing 31-year-old Ron Mansfield. It is to be noted that the incident took place 5-years back during a robbery.
Singh had the custodial punishment imposed on him on Thursday when he reappeared before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall at the Demera High Court.
It was admitted by the accused that he killed the deceased on 19 June 2018 in the county of Demerara during the course of a robbery. For that, he was presented before Justice Morris-Ramlall and was pleaded guilty for the offence of murder.
During his sentence, Justice Ramlall, issued an order asking authorities to enroll him in the classes for learning carpentry and masonry.
The matter was prosecuted by Attorneys-at-Law Delon Fraser, Rbina Christmas, Caressa Henry and Madana Rampersaud.
Moreover, the other two men, namely, Alexander La Cruz and Mark Welch, both of ages 31 jailed for 13 and 14 years respectively for the 2018 murder of Mansfield.
It is to be noted, the sentences were handed down last month by Justic Morris-Ramlall. The pair had pleaded guilty to a joint murder indictment at the Demerara High Court. Both the men were credited for the time spent in pre-trial detention.
Further, Mansfield, resident of 772 Westminster, West Bank Demerara was attacked and shot on 19 June 2018 in his chest after he returned home on his motorcycle from plying his trade.
The victim was being transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, when he died.
As per the details, he died while being shifted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Meanwhile, his bag containing his phone cards and money was not found.
In relation to Welch and La Cruz’s role in the robbery, the former was the lookout man while the latter transported his accomplices to and from the scene.
The residents of Guyana responded to this matter, adding that “Justice will never happen because of the justice system, the one who lost his or her life never wins. The killers are always the winner. My condolences to the families. Rip.”
While another person commented, stating that “He took a life, he should be given life prison.”
