Grenada Met office issues heatwave advisory
The Meteorology Office at the Maurice Bishop International Airport has issued its first heatwave advisory of 2024 for Grenada.

St George, Grenada: The Meteorology Office has issued its first heatwave advisory for Grenada. Citizens are advised to take the necessary precautions to cope with the weather conditions as temperature is expected to exceed 31.7 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological department at Maurice Bishop International Airport, there has been little or no rainfall in the country from past one week. However, the temperature is rising every day.
“Today is the eighth consecutive day that temperatures have been above 31.7°C at Point Salines. A heatwave advisory has been issued for the next 48 hours across the state of Grenada, with little rainfall and relatively high temperatures expected over the next few days”, said Met officials.
The officials urged the public of Grenada to be cautioned and avoid closed spaces. The people are advised to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and they should dress appropriately to safe themselves from the heatwave.
The elderly people and children are especially suggested to avoid getting out of their homes during the day as the heatwaves ae extremely harmful for their health.
Furthermore, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) researched about the effects of heatwaves on humans in 2021. The report shows that the heatwaves have the additional risk of many health-related problems which can even cause a death.
Some of the heat-related illnesses are as follows,
- Dehydration
- Heat stroke
- Heat cramps
Such conditions are considered most vulnerable for the people, especially the outdoor workers.
Additionally, the Head of the Grenada Met Office- Gerard Tamar stated that generally the heat season starts from June and September, but since years, it gradually changed. Due to which the heat season has already started in 2024.
The weather reports added that not only the Caribbean countries are getting hot but it’s affects can be seen globally. These conditions make the lives of the people more difficult.
