Govt of Dominica to provide a monetary award to Thea Lafond
Dominica: The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has taken a decision to provide Thea Lafond with a monetary award of $200 000 in recognition of her medal-winning performances.

Dominica: The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has taken a decision to provide Thea Lafond with a monetary award of $200 000 in recognition of her medal-winning performances at the Commonwealth games and the NACAC Senior Championships. This happy news was announced by Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit earlier on August 22, 2022 (Monday).
The award will be presented to Thea for her recent performances and continued dedication to excellence.
Lafond gained asilver medal earlier this month at the Commonwealth Games in Women’s Triple Jump and followed this performance with a gold medal at the NACAC championships this past weekend.
She maintained her position as the 2022 Women’s Triple Jump champion after jumping 14.49m during her final jump.
About Thea LaFond:
Lafond was born and brought up on April 5, 1994, in Roseau, Dominica. The 28-year-old is a triple jumper who represents Dominica in international sports events.
The latest medal bagged by Dominican athletes was a Silver medal in Commonwealth Games 2022, played in Birmingham. She also competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Earlier, in the 2016 Summer Olympics, she participated in the women’s triple jump event but failed to qualify for the finals. Still, her result of 12.82 metres helped in securing a place in Commonwealth Games 2018.
During the Commonwealth Games 2018, Lafond created history by becoming the first Dominican athlete to win a medal for Dominica at the Commonwealth Games after securing a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump event.
