PM Holness stated, “The Honourable Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart is one of Jamaica’s most brilliant and innovative business minds. News of his passing brought with it deep and profound sadness.”

Butch, as many Jamaicans affectionately called him, will be recalled as the ultimate entrepreneur, but for many, including myself, we will remember him as a nationalist, committed to his beloved country and its development. He was a man for all years and all seasons, a family man and a friend,” he added.

According to Prime Minister, He had a peal of infectious laughter, quick wit, an unmistakable sense of humor, and more than anything else, a heart of gold; kindness and considerate came comfortably and naturally to Gordon. He made everyone around him satisfactory in his presence even though it was well known that he was no conventional man; he was an extraordinary human being with an unfaltering dedication to the social good.

His legacy is tremendous, and his passing symbolizes a significant loss to Jamaica, the region, and the world. I am personally lamenting this consequential loss even as I remember him fondly. In all our interactions, he was a gracious host, a straight talker who said exactly what he meant, and yet he was humble.

Whether you knew him individually or only heard of him, the common theme was that he was a man larger than life, a man whose charity reached and converted many and whose integrity was unexceptionable. Butch genuinely loved people, and people loved him back. Jamaica is proud to call him our own.

“I send my sincere sympathies to his family, friends, and the thousands of people whose lives he included in one way or another. Walk right Butch, you led an exemplary life, and we shall miss you profoundly. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” added PM Holness.

Habari Watoto commented, “One of Jamaica’s greatest mind, an extraordinary entrepreneur, a great man who served to the Jamaican people also the Caribbean, your legacy will always be reflected, and our memory of you will never vanish away, condolences to the family members, sandal resort, ATL, and observer workers.”

Sheldon Orlando Barners wrote, “Rest In Peace! Royal Plantations is my home, and I had hoped that I would be able to come and visit in 2020! I frequently tell my American friends that they are welcome to visit my home! Rest In Peace to Butch, and condolences to his family! God bless.”
