Ghana to provide technical support to Guyanese oil industry

Guyana: The Caribbean island will soon get technical assistance from Ghana. The support will be provided by the West African nation in the areas of local content, the sovereign wealth fund – (SWF) or oil money legislation, and in the highly-anticipated gas-to-energy development.

The announcement was made by the – President of Guyana – President Irfaan Ali, on Friday. He noted that the first phase of a technical team from Ghana will arrive early in the month of November, comprising of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and experts in the oil and gas field, and will instantly commence working with their Guyanese counterparts.

President Ali further asserted that “It is also expected that the – Vice President of Ghana will visit Guyana by this year, & it is anticipated that the President of Ghana will participate in the oil & gas conference set for 2022″.

In addition, President Ali indicated that a team of investors would be visiting Guyana with the motive to establish partnerships with local counterparts in various investment opportunities.

“The investors from Ghana’s private sector have various areas of interest, including the various areas such as – agriculture, mining, tourism, and food production. We are hoping that the local private sector can actively participate and create the environment for this partnership to prosper,” President further added.

In the month of October, Vice President – Dr Bharrat Jagdeo led a delegation to Ghana where he met with President – Nana Akufo-Addo and his counterpart – Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

A few weeks back, Ghana’s Vice-President cited that, “We want to see the cooperation between – Ghana & Guyana go beyond oil and gas to the sharing of experiences in the areas of agriculture, industrialisation, real estate, health and digitisation which Ghana has embarked upon”.

Both the countries share a strong bond of bilateral relationships. Bilateral relations between both nations were established on May 14, in the year of 1979.
