GCA joins AAA initiative to enhance resilient agriculture in Africa

Africa: Dutch Water Sector, a worldwide partner for water safety and water security, announced that CASsummit2021 and Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) had joined forces with the AAA initiative to enhance the food security in Africa that is compromised by the consequences of Climate Change.

The official site of the Dutch Water sector stated CASsummit2021 and Global Center on Adaptation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AAA initiative on 16 March.

This deal supports the African initiative to enhance food security and increase smallholder farmers’ incomes in Africa.

Program Objective

Under this program, Both organisations will also operate together to mobilise support for the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) and promote African organisations’ voice in resilience and adaptation discourse, the Dutch Water sector revealed.

Furthermore, the Dutch Water sector stated, the African continent suffers heavily from climate change with more extreme flooding and periods of droughts. Natural disasters compromise Africa’s economic growth and fuel societal tensions.

Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) support to the African Agriculture Adaptation Initiative (AAA) follows the Climate Adaptation Summit in January that called for a quickening of climate adaptation in Africa by scaling up implementation programmes and more alliances.

Finances to program

At the summit, the African Development Bank (AfdB) declared the mobilisation of 25 billion US dollars as climate finance within 2020 and 2025. At least 50 percent will boost climate adaptation and resilience building. AfdB and GCA pledged to leverage an additional 12.5 billion US dollar by other vital allies.

President of the Gabonese Republic & African Union Ali Bongo Ondimba, nominated champion of the African Adaptation Initiative, stated, “The devastating effects of climate change are on the acceleration, especially on the African continent. Africa has no solution but to adapt and plan a climate-resilient future. He is extremely pleased to see the strong collaboration emerging between the African Adaptation Initiative and GCA.”
