Fourth wave on the verge to end in St Kitts and Nevis soon: Dr Cameron Wilkinson

Basseterre: As per the predictions of the Health experts in St Kitts and Nevis, the fourth wave of the COVID-19 virus will dwindle in the upcoming weeks. No death has been recorded in St Kitts and Nevis amid the ongoing fourth wave. 

Medical Chief of Staff at the – Joseph N. France General Hospital – (JNF) Dr Cameron Wilkinson, while speaking during this weeks’ press conference, highlighted that the island is witnessing an increase in the recovery rate. 

He noted, “If we look at the number of confirmed coronavirus cases to date, we have in total four thousand four hundred and eighty-four (4484) with three thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight (3838) in St Kitts & six hundred and forty-six (646) in Nevis. Out of these, three thousand two hundred and fifty-two (3252) have already recovered in total“. 

Dr Wilkinson furthermore expressed his happiness while noting that no death, so far, has been recorded in the twin-island Federation, also adding that it will be inevitable if people do not take necessary precautions and protection. 

“I do hope that COVID-19 death rate remains at zero during this current wave.“

He noted the reports shows that the fully immunized individuals are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms of the new viral disease. The majority of the fully vaccinated persons are testing negative in four to five days. 

The new variants Lambda and Omicron cases were found in St Kitts and Nevis by genomic sequencing and COVID testing. 

“If we are to look a bit closer at the cases in this last wave that began on December 24, 2021, we have/had a total of – one thousand six hundred and sixty-two new cases (1662). The females outnumber the males with about forty-eight- (48) percent of cases are in males and fifty-two (52) percent in females”. In the meantime, the twin-island Federation has witnessed around 30 hospitalizations, of which 24 are in St Kitts and 6 in Nevis. 

Dr Wilkinson informed, around 20 people are in the hospital facility at the current time in the JNF hospital, out of which there are only 9 COVID patients.
