Dominica: Sports plays a significant role in the lives of the human being and boosts a healthy lifestyle. It escalates better health, well-being and safeguards people from various diseases. Sports is one of the important topics discussed in Dominica’s Cabinet Press Conference which held on 31st March 2021.

Moreover, the development of the Basic Nature Trust Fund Programme was discussed for the growth of Dominica.

Roselyn Paul, Minister for Sports, Culture and Community Development stated, “In the time of exogenous COVID-19 pandemic, our government is investing its time in our people to make their life better for community and families.”

Sports Stadium: She declared the construction of Windsor Park Sports Stadium Phase 4-Infrastructure and Lighting which will cost $2.3 million. The ministry would spend an excess of the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex costing $2.5 million. Covering of Massacre Basketball Court, Rehabilitation of Geneva Playing Field, Rehabilitation of Colihaut Playing Field and Windsor Park Sports Stadium will also take place at respective prices.

Furthermore, she added, The Sports, Culture and Community Development are working on Needs Trust Fund Programme, a flagship collaborative government of Dominica and Caribbean Development Bank. This programme aims to reduce the vulnerability of the targetted communities for the social and economic infrastructures and capacity building to enhance livelihoods.

Besides this, “Basic Nature Trust Fund Programme” BNTF has 8-sub projects; Morne Prosper Primary School Security and Sports Facility Upgrade, Woodfordhill Playing Field Upgrade and Pavillion, Castle Bruce Secondary School Production Facility, Dominica Community High School Extension, Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities Office Extension, Morne Prosper Water Supply and Grand Fond Storm Drains and Bagatelle/Fond st. Jean Water Supply Rehabilitation’s construction will take an amount of $8.7 million.

Grand Fond Storm Drains project: She announced, “Grand Fond Storm Drains project is nearly 87% completed and will enhance the drainage system of Dominica, which will go through the entire community.”

“Due to Grand Fond Storm Drain project, houses will be prevented from flooding and heavy rainfall or due to water access. Proper drainage will reduce the chances of flooding and overflow,” she added.

She added, the project has provided direct employment for several people too.

She declared that from this project, 221 households consisting of 629 residents to be benefited. Grand Fond Storm Drain project will be completed on 16 July 2021.

Morne Prosper Water Supply will benefit 226 households in Dominica. It enhances the supply of potable water and adds benefits to the nation’s agriculture system, which will be completed by 6 July 2021.

DAPD to escalate the empowerment of Dominica’s disabled people: Roselyn Paul

Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities Office Extension (DAPD) is a way to empower the disabled people of Dominica. Along with external and internal ramps and fire escape, An electric elevator(lift), timbre stage will be installed in the Office for physically challenged people. It will be completed by May 16, 2021.

Dominica Community High School Extension will be completed by June 16, 2021. She also appreciated Dominica’s Football team for playing against the Dominican Republic.
