Dominica: Vince Henderson visits GrandBay Primary School, anticipates for reopening soon

GrandBay, Dominica: Parliamentary Representative for the Grand Bay Constituency Vince Henderson visited the GrandBay Primary School, which has been witnessing reconstruction.

The primary school was ravaged in 2017, following the landfall of Category V Hurricane Maria.

Minister was accompanied by PS of Education, Chandler Hyacinth and other Education Officials, while visiting the site. Henderson, furthermore, expressed pleasure as the final phases of the project has been unfold.

“Today I visited the site of the GrandBay Primary School with the company of the P.S of Education, Mrs. Chandler Hyacinth and other planning and Education Officials.
We were pleased with the progress made thus far,” Parliamentary Representative stated.

While gladly announcing about the reopening of the primary school in the Constituency, Henderson outlined, “As the final phases of the project unfold, we are elated as we look forward to the reopening of the GrandBay Primary School.”

The school has been witnessing construction works since one to two years as it was severely affected due to the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017, receiving significant damage to the roof. The construction of the school has been benefitting from the funding through the Canadian Government and partial through the Citizenship by Investment Programme of Dominica.

The school was constructed around forty (40) years ago and was established with the financial help of the Canadian Government. The government of Canada once again stoop up with the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and made the required funding.

The Canadian Government had made the donation of more than three million dollars through the Caribbean Development Bank.

This reconstruction will also bring some new changes in the infrastructure of the school. The government has announced that steps are being taken to relocate students and teachers as construction nears, with the Grand Bay Youth Center being the number one option.
