Dominica records 72 new COVID cases

Roseau, Dominica: As per to the statistics shared in the report of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, a total of seventy-two individuals tested positive for the COVID-19 virus on Thursday, January 20, 2022. The arrival of this additional; cases rises the active toll of novel coronavirus infections to 766.

Of these new cases recorded on Thursday, three positive results for the virus came from the RT-PCR testing, whereas the remaining 69 by Rapid Antigen testing method.

The island reported one new death, which takes the COVID-19 death rate to forty-nine. In terms of positive news, a total of thirty-seven individuals recovered from the contagious viral disease on Thursday.

Meanwhile, as of January 20, 2022, 7,606 Dominicans have been recovered from the COVID-19 and got discharged from the hospital facilities. The Caribbean island country recorded a total of 8,421 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus since the outbreak breakout.

The data of the COVID-19 update report highlights that the Dominican healthcare authorities have recorded a total of 140896 COVID-19 tests, out of which, in total, 32972 tests conducted were of RT-PCR and the left 107924 tests conducted were of Rapid Antigen testing, till January 20, 2022.

Vaccination statistics of Dominica as of January 20, 2022:

Till January 20, 2022, there are a total of 31152 individuals in Dominica who have taken their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a total of 28859 persons have received their required number of the WHO-approved vaccine doses and, therefore, are now fully immunised against the deadliest viral disease.

Booster shots are also being administered on the island at the vaccination sites. Although, the Dominican government has not implemented ted the policy of mandate COVID19 vaccination, noting that it is an individual responsibility to get themselves vaccinated and to safeguard them and their loved ones.
