Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, recently addressed the general public of the country and expressed his condolence towards the people who lost their loved ones, friends and relatives during the flash flooding in the region.
He outlined that the government of Dominica is with the people who have lost their property and dear ones.
“I want to start by first expressing my personal and sincere condolences to relatives, friends, neighbours and indeed residents of the Eastern villages of Dominica on the loss of life, personal injury and damage to property and infrastructure occasioned by the passage of a tropical depression over the weekend,” said Prime Minister Skerrit in his address.
“My prayers are especially with the relatives of the deceased, and we commit to being there for the family in this hour of sadness and distress,” he added.
He also said that he visited several eastern communities and received a detailed update on the extent of damage and the inconvenience to residents.
PM Skerrit stated that he had deployed all needed equipment and other resources to ensure rapid clearing of roadways and restoration of regular commutes, albeit temporarily. Much of the ongoing infrastructural work is already concentrated in the East of the island, and this latest tragedy will serve to strengthen the country’s resolve to install permanent structures for easy mobility of persons living in Castle Bruce, Good Hope, San Sauveur Petite Soufriere, The Kalinago Territory, Grand Fond, La Plaine and surrounding communities.
